How to conduct a competency evaluation

When you a competency-based or hybrid apprenticeship, you'll need to use Evaluations.

Updated this week

Note: Pending Requests will appear in your Home tab as To-Do’s. You will also receive an email notification.

How to review and approve a request for competency evaluation?

  1. Go to the Manage portal > Performance Tools > Evaluations

  2. You will see a list of pending evaluations that have been submitted by apprentices

  3. You can give multiple evaluations the same rating (Not in Training, In Training, Proficient) by selecting the pending evaluations and clicking on the rating you'd like to give them

How to evaluate an apprentice on your own?

  1. If an apprentice hasn't submitted a request but you are an Admin or Manager, you'll be able to evaluate an apprentice even without them requesting it.

  2. Click on “New” in the top right corner

  3. Select Apprentice

  4. Enter the Date of the Evaluation

  5. Select Competency as the type

  6. Select the Job Function

  7. Select the Competency being evaluated

  8. Select the Rating

  9. Note: Marking Proficient will remove the Competency from the list of pending Competencies. You will not see it as an option on the next Evaluation.

  10. Provide a description of their work

  11. Upload any relevant files

  12. Click the Save button

Not seeing any options under competency?

  • The competency you are looking for may have already been marked as “Proficient”

  • The competency you created could be “Technical” as opposed to “Behavioral”. “Technical” competencies require time to be logged against them so you will need to submit time.

How to edit or delete a pending competency evaluation?

  1. Go to the right of the entry you'd like to delete and find the three dots under the Actions column

  2. Click on Edit, make your changes, and clicks Save

  3. To delete, click on Delete and confirm the permanent deletion of the pending evaluation
