How to Sign the ETA 671 Apprenticeship Agreement in Apprentix

Signing apprentice agreements used to require generating the form in Apprentix, downloading it, and obtaining a wet signature. While the manual process is still available, you can now complete the entire process digitally inside Apprentix—saving time, reducing errors, and keeping everything in one place.

Step 1: Add a New Apprentice

  1. Go to the People section in Apprentix.

  2. Click Add Member.

  3. Enter the apprentice’s details (name, apprenticeship start date, etc.).

  4. When asked “Do you want to allow the apprentice to digitally sign the Apprenticeship Agreement?” select Yes to enable digital signing.

    • If you select No, you’ll use the manual option (via the three-dot menu).

    • All Fractional Sponsor clients have "Yes" set as a required field that cannot be changed.

  5. Submit the apprentice’s information to begin onboarding.

Step 2: Apprentice Onboarding

Once added, the apprentice receives an email to set up their Apprentix account.

They will:

  • Set a Password → using the secure link in the email

  • Complete Profile → name, birthday, phone, address, emergency contact, demographics

  • Review & Sign → after saving their profile, they are directed to the Apprenticeship Agreement

  • Complete Required Fields → All necessary personal information such as address, date of birth, and education level must be accurately filled out as part of profile completion.

Step 3: Digital Signing Process

  • The Apprentice Agreement (Form 671) is automatically generated with pre-filled details.

  • A progress bar shows the form is being prepared.

  • The apprentice reviews the completed form and signs it by typing their name and clicking “Sign.”

  • After signing, the system confirms their submission and highlights the successful registration of their Apprenticeship Agreement.

Step 4: After Signing

Once signed:

  • The apprentice sees a confirmation screen.

  • A fully executed agreement is emailed to:

    • The apprentice

    • Program Admins

    • Program Sponsor

  • The email includes:

    • Confirmation that the form was signed

    • Apprentice’s name and occupation

    • The signed ETA-671 with:

      • Apprentice’s signature and date

      • Sponsor representative’s signature

      • Employer representative’s signature

  • A copy is automatically stored in Apprentix under Documents → Filed.

  • Delays in completing the agreement do not affect the apprentice's official start date, which remains consistent with the initial registration.

Key Benefits of Digital Signing

  • Faster: No more chasing wet signatures—sponsor and employer approvals are recorded in the platform.

  • Convenient: Everyone automatically receives a signed copy by email.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I can’t find the Apprentice Agreement. What should I do?

Check that you have completed all required profile information first. The system typically makes the agreement accessible only after your profile is complete.

Will I receive confirmation after I submit the Apprentice Agreement?

Yes, confirmation of submission and distribution of the document will be handled within the Apprentix system.

What happens after the apprenticeship agreement is signed?

When the apprenticeship agreement has been signed in Apprentix, a fully executed version of the agreement is emailed automatically to the apprentice, to the employer admins, and to Apprentix. A file is also saved within Apprentix under Compliance > Documents > Filed tab. The apprentice to be registered is automatically sent to the Department of Labor through Apprentix's platform, along with the signed agreement. The apprentice's registration sits in a "pending" status until it has been approved by the Department of Labor.

Can I manually sign instead of using digital signatures? (separate manual signing page exists, linking helps both)

Yes, you can also have the apprentice manually sign the agreement and upload it into Apprentix with a very specific process that allows you to complete the apprentice's profile while triggering the automations with the Department of Labor.

You must follow these steps very carefully in order to ensure that the apprentice is properly registered. In order to generate an apprenticeship agreement for that apprentice and to have it printed out, go to People and then click on the three dots next to the apprentice's name and select Apprenticeship Agreement.

A PDF will automatically be generated, which you can download and print. Please note that the apprentice must sign on page 3, line 1 and the employer must sign on page 3, line 5 before it can be uploaded into Apprentix. When you are ready to upload into Apprentix, go back to people and click on the three dots next to that apprentice's name and select the menu option that says "Change to Active".
