Add Supportive Services

Supportive services and mentorship are proven to increase apprentice graduation rates.

These services provide aid when an apprentice faces several barriers during and after their job that are outside of their control.

Click Step 8: Supportive services

Mentoring

  1. Select current mentoring program status

    1. If you select no, new sections will open up to help you design a high-quality mentoring program.

  2. Select your openness to enhance your program

    1. If you select yes, new sections will open up to help you design a high-quality mentoring program.

  3. Select cohort or at-will

    1. Cohort: Some companies choose to start all their apprentices together as a class.

    2. At-will: Other companies choose to train apprentices as their business needs it.

  4. Mentor-to-mentee ratio

    1. Enter the maximum number of mentees any one mentor will be responsible for.

      1. Enter 1 for all trades operating a registered apprenticeship program.

      2. The greater the mentor-to-mentee ratio, the higher quality your mentoring program must be.

Commitments

  1. Select meeting frequency

    1. Determine how often mentors will meet with mentees to put a regular meeting cadence on their calendars.

  2. Enter meeting duration

  3. Select length of mentorship relationship

    1. Set clear expectations for mentors and mentees on how long the relationship is planned to last.

  4. Select meeting structure

  5. Select what tasks will be assigned

    1. Align with the classroom and OJL plan - these tasks will be evaluated within Apprentix

      1. This is a much simpler approach because you’ll be able to track, approve, and provide evidence all within Apprentix.

    2. In addition to the classroom and OJL plan - these tasks must be managed outside of Apprentix

      1. This approach will require an additional step to run reports for compliance.

  6. Select performance measurement of mentorship tasks

    1. If tasks are assigned outside of Apprentix, you will need to determine how those tasks are evaluated.

    2. Registered apprenticeships will need to provide this evidence in addition to Apprentix reporting.

  7. Select backup mentor trained

    1. Select Yes if you have or plan to name a person to be the background.

    2. Select No if you do not plan to have a backup.

  8. Select backup mentor attendance requirement

    1. Select Yes if you require the backup mentor to occasionally attend mentoring meetings.
