What is a Reciprocity Request?

A reciprocity request allows your registered apprentices to work in another state under Apprentix’s sponsorship. Since our program is registered in Texas, other states require a formal reciprocity process to recognize apprentices for compliance.

Apprentix manages the entire end-to-end process with the state agency so you don’t have to navigate the paperwork.

Why You Need It

  • Your crews travel. If you want to send apprentices to another state for work, reciprocity ensures their registration stays valid.

  • Without reciprocity, hours don’t count. Apprentices not recognized in the state are considered unregistered, meaning their hours:

    • Don’t apply toward IRA compliance (risking tax credits)

    • Don’t count toward their apprenticeship completion

How Much Does It Cost?

  • $1,000 per state per contractor

  • One-time fee for each state where reciprocity is required

  • Apprentix initiates the request the same day you submit it

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can reciprocity requests be expedited?
No. While Apprentix files requests immediately, each state controls its own processing time.

Q: How long does reciprocity approval take?
It depends on the state but it typically takes 1-30 days to get reciprocity. Some states have 45 day policies but they know us so they usually approve faster than that. This is substantially faster than the 6-12 months it takes to register in each state.

Q: Do I need reciprocity for every project?
Only if apprentices are working in a state outside Texas.

Q: Why does each contractor have to get reciprocity?

States issue reciprocity at the contractor-level so each contractor has to submit all the paperwork required.
