Why apprentices are registered in Texas
Apprentix operates a Texas-based apprenticeship program. When a company joins the program, all apprentices are registered under that program in Texas.
This means:
Your company can be located anywhere in the U.S.
Your apprentices can work in any state
Their official program registration remains in Texas
Many companies across the country participate in the program, so it’s common for employers and apprentices to be located in different states than the program registration.
How apprentices can work in other states
After apprentices are registered in our Texas program, we request permission for them to work in other states using reciprocity.
Reciprocity allows apprentices registered in one state to perform apprenticeship work in another state.
In most cases:
Reciprocity is granted at the employer level
Once approved, all apprentices employed by your company under our sponsorship are authorized to work as registered apprentices in that state
Their hours and progress still count toward their apprenticeship
Important: Some states require apprentice licenses
Some states — especially for electrician apprentices — require a separate state apprentice license.
When licensing is required:
Apprentices still register under our Texas program
The employer must also obtain the state-required apprentice license
Apprentix does not manage or apply for state licensing. That responsibility remains with the employer.
Quick summary
Apprentices are registered under our Texas-based program
They can work in other states through reciprocity approvals
Once reciprocity is granted, they can legally work and receive apprenticeship credit in that state
Some states may require separate apprentice licensing, handled by the employer
FAQ
Why is Texas listed on the apprentice registration?
Because Apprentix’s apprenticeship program is registered in Texas, and all participating apprentices are registered under that program.
Can apprentices still work in other states?
Yes. We use reciprocity to obtain approval for apprentices to work in other states while remaining registered in the Texas program.
Do apprentices need a state license?
Sometimes. Certain states require apprentice licenses (commonly for electricians). When required, the employer must obtain those licenses.
