These are the most common compliance-related questions contractors ask when working with Apprentix.
How do I prepare for audits?
Apprentix tracks all compliance data for you. Our system generates an IRA Compliance Package, which includes everything auditors and regulators may request.
What happens during a DOL audit?
You’ll have access to:
Apprentice records
Training progress reports
Signed agreements and required documentation
Apprentix ensures your program is always audit-ready.
What should I ask my subcontractors to provide?
To confirm your subcontractors are compliant with apprenticeship requirements, request these documents:
Apprenticeship Standards
Registration Certificate
Appendix A for each registered trade (e.g., Craft Laborer, Equipment Operator)
Appendix C (if they have 5+ apprentices or joined another sponsor’s program)
Appendix D (if they joined another sponsor’s program; not needed if self-registered)
Signed Apprenticeship Agreements (Form 671)
Davis-Bacon Certificates (must be valid, renewed every 90 days)
Reciprocity Confirmation (if registered in another state)
👉 If your subcontractor cannot provide all of these, send them to Apprentix. We’ll get them properly registered.
Should I cover subcontractors under my plan?
If a subcontractor buys their own Pro Plan ($13,000/year), they may pass that cost on to you.
If you are already on the Pro Plan, it’s usually more cost-effective to upgrade to the Premium Plan.
Why?
Premium Plan = $20,000/year
It covers you + all subcontractors under one program
That’s just $7,000 more than Pro, often saving you money overall
Are Davis-Bacon (apprentice) certificates good for only 90 days?
Yes, Davis-Bacon certificates must be renewed every 90 days. The reason the Dept. of Labor issues the certs in 90-day increments is to ensure active enrollment of the apprentice in the program, correct classification, and to align with compliance reporting like certified payroll.
If you joined Apprentix's apprenticeship program, Apprentix's compliance team will handle issuing and renewing the certificates for you and you'll receive a notification when a new certificate is ready for you. The certificate will be placed in Apprentix under Compliance > Documents > Davis-Bacon tab.
If you are managing your own apprenticeship program as the sponsor, then you will be responsible for issuing and renewing the Davis-Bacon certificate yourself.
