Can I use our own apprenticeship agreement instead of the Department of Labor's agreement?

Yes, you can use your own apprenticeship agreement if you're not in a registered program. Select “No” for digital signing in Apprentix, use your own method to sign, and upload the signed agreement under Compliance > Documents > Filed.

Yes, you can use your own apprenticeship agreement—but only if you are not a registered apprenticeship program.

What’s the difference?

If you're part of a registered apprenticeship program, you're required to use the Department of Labor’s official agreement—Form 671—and collect digital signatures through Apprentix.

However, if you are running an unregistered apprenticeship, you have more flexibility. In this case, you're allowed to create and use your own version of the apprenticeship agreement.

How to handle agreements for unregistered apprenticeships

  1. When Adding an Apprentice > Select “No” when asked:
“Do you want the apprentice to digitally sign the Apprenticeship Agreement?”
This option is specifically tied to Form 671, which is only used by registered programs.

  2. Create your own agreement
You'll need to draft your own apprenticeship agreement tailored to your program. Be sure to include all necessary terms and conditions that align with your training expectations.

  3. Use your own digital signing method
Since you're not using Form 671, you’ll also need to arrange your own method for digital signatures. Tools like DocuSign, Adobe Sign, or similar e-signature platforms are commonly used.

  4. Store the signed agreement in Apprentix
Once signed, upload the agreement in:

    • Apprentix > Compliance > Documents > Filed tab

This ensures your documentation is organized and accessible for compliance tracking—even if you’re not using the standard DOL form.
