How to apply for an apprenticeship certificate of completion using Appendix B2 in Apprentix. Step-by-step process for admins, from confirming hours to downloading the signed form.

How to Apply for an Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion (Appendix B2)

When a registered apprentice finishes their program, you need to apply for a Certificate of Completion (Appendix B2) through Apprentix. This is the official DOL form that proves the apprentice has met all time and training requirements. Here's how to complete the process.

Important Notes

  • This process is only for registered apprenticeships.

  • The apprentice must have a valid registration number in Apprentix.

  • Completing an apprenticeship means they have fulfilled all the time requirements (e.g. 4000 hours for a Craft Laborer).

  • If the apprentice is simply done working on a project that had apprenticeship requirements and you no longer want to keep that apprentice registered, do not use this process. Instead, use the Apprentice Cancellation action.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Go to Manage Portal → Navigate to People.

  2. Find the apprentice → Make sure their registration number is filled in.

  3. Confirm completion → Open the apprentice’s profile.

  4. Select completion action → Click Actions > Apprentice Completion.

  5. Enter completion details

    • Choose a future completion date

    • Answer all required questions

    • Provide any relevant details about the completion

  6. Review & confirm → Double-check the information and complete the process.

  7. Automatic notification → The apprentice will receive an email confirming their completion status.

  8. Download the form → In the apprentice’s profile, open the context menu (three dots …) and select Apprentice Completion Form.

  9. Save the document → The form downloads automatically with all pre-filled apprentice and program details.

What Happens Next

  • The Apprentice Completion Form (Appendix B2) serves as the official application for completion certification.

  • The apprentice keeps a copy for their records.

  • You can store the signed form in Apprentix or upload it to RAPIDS for compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between completing and canceling an apprentice?

The difference between completing and canceling an apprenticeship is that an apprenticeship completion means that the apprentice has completed the total duration of hours in the apprenticeship occupation and they will now become a journeyworker in that occupation. As a result their apprenticeship in that occupation is over and they must now be paid as a journey worker or above that rate.

When an apprentice is canceled, that means that they are no longer a registered apprentice or in that program and they no longer can be paid using the apprentice wage schedule. Their hours of work also no longer count as an apprentice and therefore any apprentice utilization requirements are not going to be met by a cancelled apprentice.

Does the apprentice receive a copy of the completion certificate?

Once an apprentice has completed the total number of hours required for their occupation, you can go into Apprentix, click on their name, and in the actions tab select Apprentice Completion. When you select that and go through the prompts, this will issue a form to request the certificate from the Department of Labor that will be sent to the apprentice to designate their completion. The apprentice will be marked as complete with the Department of Labor.

Where can I store the signed Appendix B2 form?

You can store the Appendix B2 form, which is the apprentice completion form, within Apprentix itself but the main point is to submit the form to the Department of Labor in order to get the certificate for the apprentice.

How do I know when an apprentice is eligible for completion?

An apprentice is eligible for completion when they have completed the minimum number of hours in their occupation. You will receive a notice within Apprentix when this occurs so that you can complete them.

✅ With this process, both you and the apprentice have a verified, audit-ready record of program completion.
